In order to better carry on its over 90-year tradition of service to the community, the Jewish Public Library is renovating its space starting May 17th, 2007. The renovations, which are scheduled to be finished after Labour Day, 2007, will provide improved lay-out for books, library patrons and staff. Since opening in 1914, the JPL has continuously sought ways to ameliorate its space and these latest changes are no exception. Please explore some of the images of the homes of the JPL. JPL Chronology

MAY 1, 1914
The Jewish Public Library opens in a rented flat at 669 St-Urbain.

ca1916-1917
JPL moves to another rented space at 951 St-Urbain.

MAY 1, 1921
JPL purchases its first building at 1131 St-Urbain (became 4115 St-Urbain).

JUNE 15, 1930
Opening day of the JPL at its new location at 4099 Esplanade Avenue.

JUNE 25, 1953
After a hugely successful fundraising campaign, the JPL moves into its first brand new building at 4499 Esplanade Avenue. This building is now the new home of Compagnie Marie Chouinard.

1967-1973
Following the movement of Montreal's Jewish community, the JPL rents space at 5253 DeCarie.

1973-present
The JPL joins other FEDERATION CJA agencies and moves into the Cummings Centre at 5151 Cote Ste-Catherine. From 1998-1999, the JPL occupies space in the Cavendish Mall while renovations to the Cummings Centre are completed.
