During this week in 1991 Zipporah Shnay, the then Executive Director, submitted a report to Bryna Garmaise, then President of the JPL regarding the automation of the Library. This proposal would lead to a massive project which spanned from 1991 to 1993. Throughout the implementation of the project the Library kept its doors open. New exhibit launch!

In anticipation of the Jewish Public Library’s 100th anniversary in 2014, the JPL-Archives have assembled items and documents from the Library’s illustrious past to put on display outside the JPL. The JPL was founded as a “folks” library, a library for all, in 1914.  The creation of the JPL was a result of the consolidation of smaller, organization or ideology-based libraries already in existence.
