Kids on Strike!

Hot off the presses – “Kids on Strike at Montreal’s Aberdeen School, 1913″!  Created in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Aberdeen School Strike, this online graphic novel is told from the perspective of 13-year old Freda.  Targeted to children (but equally as enjoyable for adults), Freda’s voice guides students through  the historical perspective, causes and consequences of this amazing school strike.  Montreal’s “little strikers” will inspire a whole new generation.  Written by Rod Macleod and Mary Anne Poutanen and illustrated by Derek Broad, “Kids on Strike” is available for free electronically through Issu on our blog (see links below) as well as  and on the Canadian Jewish Heritage Network.

Led by Rod Macleod and Mary Anne Poutanen, the “Kids on Strike” project was generously supported by the Jewish Public Library Archives, the Peter and Ellen Jacobs Virtual Archives Fund, the Generations Fund of Federation CJA, the Public Service Alliance of Canada, the Association of McGill University Research Employees, and the Association of McGill University Support Employees.
