Immigrant Orphans

In 1920 a campaign was launched in Montreal to bring immigrant orphans from the Ukraine, children who had lost their parents in the bloody pogroms of 1919. Mrs. Lillian Freiman of Ottawa took charge of this project. She convened a conference in Ottawa of Jewish community leaders where it was decided to bring over as many orphans as possible. Mrs. Freiman travelled to a number of cities in Canada to make an appeal on behalf of the Ukrainian orphans.
