Canada Council Readings with Wine and Cheese
“Garcia’s Heart” with author Liam Durcan
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 2008 AT 5:30 P.M.

Liam Durcan will talk about how reading fiction is so natural that it is easy to forget that it is a complex cognitive process. New insights into how the brain may work have caused neurobiologists and behavioural psychologists to become interested in narrative and the mechanisms through which we appreciate, and generate narrative. Liam Durcan will discuss several concepts that try to explain why and how literature affects us so deeply; he will also read from Garcia's Heart.

Liam Durcan is a Montreal writer whose most recent book Garcia's Heart was named by the Globe and Mail as one of the top books of 2007. Durcan lives in Montreal with his family and works as a neurologist at the Montreal Neurological Hospital.

Books and autographs available.

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Montreal
Sunday Morning Family Tree Workshops

SUNDAY, JUNE 8, 2008, FROM 10:00 A.M. TO NOON

The popular Sunday Morning Family Tree workshops (formerly Scholar-in-Residence) are an opportunity for beginners to get ‘one-on-one’ help with family history questions. Jewish family history does not have to be a mystery. We all leave a paper trail that can unravel the story of our families for many generations, across the ocean and into the smallest of ‘shtetls’– Join with other Montrealers in the fascinating quest for your roots.
