Ian MacDonald, Editor-in-Chief of Policy Options, who writes regular columns on politics and policy for the Montreal Gazette and National Post, and is a frequent commentator for CTV, CPAC and CBC. Movie Presentation in English, 52 min.
Montreal Jewish Memories Part IV: Post-War Stories 1945-1952 - A D.O. Film Production
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2008 AT 7:30 P.M.
For more than fifteen years, many Montreal Jews from every walk of life have shared their memories with us; stories of personal experience, spanning the decades from the twenties and through WWII. In this, the fourth and concluding film of a series, they describe the post-war period:
A returning soldier, battle-scarred, feels upset at the mundane concerns of family and friends. Survivors wait years for the chance to come to Canada and a normal life. War orphans meet foster parents. Union leaders and a JIAS official recall bringing in thousands of skilled workers for the clothing industry. Children give up their bedrooms as Congress urges families to share their small apartments with newcomers. WWII veterans go to fight for Israel; Zionist youth join kibbutzim to build the Jewish state. Dances at the “Y”. Vacations up north. Moving from the Main to new neighbourhoods, new opportunities. Stories of a coming of age.
Introduced by Jack Wolofsky, chairman, Foundation for Yiddish Culture. Co-sponsored by the Organization of Montreal Child Survivors/Hidden Children.

JBM - Dernier événement / Last event

The Janie Cooper Memorial Endowment Fund presents a movie presentation in English, 93 min.
“Sixty Six”, directed by Paul Weiland - from an original screenplay by Peter Straughan and Bridget O’Connor
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2008 AT 8:00 P.M.
It is the summer of '66, and England is about to be consumed by World Cup fever. For 12-year-old Bernie though, the biggest day of his life is looming: his Bar Mitzvah, and the day he becomes a man. However, Bernie's family is increasingly distracted by the threat of losing their business and their wayward older son, and the scale of Bernie's Bar Mitzvah diminishes daily. Worst of all, the Cup Final is scheduled to take place on the same day and when England makes it through the qualifying rounds, Bernie's longed-for Bar Mitzvah looks set to be a complete disaster.
Introduced by Delores Rosen, English Cultural Committee member of the JPL, and cinema aficionado.
Sponsored by the Janie Cooper Memorial Endowment Fund.
