Donating to the Archives

Since the inception of the Jewish Public Library in 1914, the Archives has striven to ensure the preservation of the records of the Jewish community in Montreal. The Archives accepts donations from Jewish Montreal institutions, organizations as well as families and individuals.

Donations of family records are especially important to recording the history of the Jewish community. By donating your personal memories you are ensuring that the material is archivally preserved and accessible to researchers and future generations.

Often people overlook the historical significance of their old papers and photographs. These types of records are vital to telling the story of the entire community and thus need to be preserved. The Archives is always excited to accept donations of:
  • Family papers (correspondence, vital records, biographical and genealogical information)
  • Photographs and audiovisual material
  • Business, organizational or institution records
  • Posters and ephemera from the community
  • Artifacts
  • Sheet Music
Upon donating your archival material to the Archives, it is arranged, described and titled under your name or the name of the business or organization. The Archives staff takes the utmost care in preserving your material and goes step-by-step through the process with all donors. For more information on the benefits of donating your material to the Archives or on the procedures of donating, please contact our staff directly. Leon and Harvey Crestohl Fonds
