Currently housing
eight computers, the Jonathan & Elyce Joy Berman Multimedia Centre
at the Jewish Public Library offers patrons a wide array of services.
All of our computers are equipped with Microsoft Office software and
are connected to the Internet via a high speed DSL connection in order
to make surfing the 'net both efficient and enjoyable.
The Jonathan & Elyce Joy Berman Multimedia Centre also offers patrons
access to a variety of software, ranging from office productivity
programs to CD-ROMs about art, music, and history. Patrons interested
in research may peruse our online version of the Encyclopaedia Judaica
or use Electric Library, an online resource that allows for the searching
of hundreds of major newspapers, magazines, transcripts, journals,
as well as the viewing of full-colour maps and photographs.
Our Multimedia Centre is a valuable resource for the Montreal community.
Open to the public, our computers provide access to the Internet,
software for projects and presentations, online research materials,
and facilities for scanning and producing documents in either colour
or black and white. In addition, there are computers capable of producing
documents in Hebrew or Yiddish. Introductory computer courses
are offered throughout the year to adults of all ages, encouraging
computer literacy amongst those who had little opportunity to work
with computers in the past.
The Jonathan & Elyce Joy Berman Multimedia Centre is evolving with
the needs of the community. As our city continues to grow and develop,
so do the programs and services
offered at the Jewish Public Library.
Members of the library are invited to take advantage of the free Internet
access and free use of all our computer software as well as our discounted
rates for computer
courses. There is also a full-time consultant available to assist
you and to answer any computer questions you may have.
