Shane Baker, of the Congress for Jewish Culture
in New York, is pleased to return to the Jewish Public Library of
Montreal. An off-off-Broadway irregular, he was the foremost Fielding
revivalist of the 20th Century, and has appeared across America
with his recitations.

Clinical psychologist and author Catherine Gildiner will discuss
philosophical and scientific connections between Darwin and how
she fictionalized this relationship in her recent novel Seduction.
Gildiner has also written a bestselling memoir Too close to the
Falls: A Memoir.
Gildiner holds a Ph.D in psychology and is in private practice in
Toronto. Introduced by Vikki Stark, M.S.W., Psychotherapist.

Il y a exactement 100 ans, Albert Einstein, jeune
homme de 26 ans et simple agent du Bureau des Brevets à Berne,
complètement inconnu du monde scientifique, publie quatre
articles bouleversants pour la physique et la compréhension
du monde qui nous entoure. Sa théorie de la relativité,
en particulier, a permis de jeter un regard neuf sur les notions
d'espace, de temps, de masse, d'énergie... et a contribué
à mieux comprendre notre univers, de l'atome aux galaxies.
Le plus grand physicien de son époque et, peut-être,
de tous les temps, Einstein est aussi un humaniste et un pacifiste
engagé. Victime de l'antisémitisme, il découvre
sa judéité, rejoint le mouvement sioniste à
ses débuts et supporte activement la création de l'État
d'Israël.
La présentation propose un bref aperçu de ses découvertes
scientifiques et révèle également le savant
et l'homme qu'il fut.

Written soon after the founding of the State of
Israel, the five "books" of the novel are a modern testament
to the Jewish experience. The action centers on a young writer from
Montreal whose search for his legendary Uncle Melech becomes a journey
of revelation through Italy, Morocco, and the Holy Land.

This documentary traces the life and artistic development
of one of the world's finest and most popular painters. In the course
of making this film, Harry Rasky brings alive his particular understanding
of the artist and the women in Modigliani's life, including his
devoted mother and his key model and longtime lover, Simone Thirioux,
from Quebec.
Harry Rasky will be introducing his movie. Rasky has been called
a "national treasure" (the Smithsonian Institution), "the
world's most acclaimed non-fiction filmmaker" (Denver International
Film Festival), and a "genius filmmaker" (National Arts
Club of America).
