Neil Bissoondath, author of five novels two short-story collections, a book-length essay on multiculturalism, winner of numerous prestigious literary awards and prizes, will do a reading and will be happy to take questions afterwards about the novel itself and fiction writing in general.

Alain Amzallag M.S.c., auteur du livre " High, Flat, Down And Back Up Again!

The Michael Lauter Memorial Fund of the JPL presents:
Author Lauren B. Davis in conversation with Robert Adams
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2006 AT 7:30 P.M.

Lauren B. Davis is the critically acclaimed and bestselling author of, most recently, The Radiant City which was short-listed this year for The Rogers Writers Trust Prize for Fiction. It is the story of how a physically and spiritually battered war correspondent finds redemption in the underbelly of modern-day Paris. The Radiant City examines the effects of war and violence, and is an exploration of the how, in the aftermath of soul-wrenching disillusionment, one man struggles to retain a compassionate heart. Davis' novel has been deemed "brilliant" by the Globe and Mail, The Paris Voice called it "beautiful - a meditation on the value of existence", and Robert Adams says, "It is remarkable. I cannot imagine a more timely and relevant novel." Her previous novel, The Stubborn Season, was a Robert Adams Reading Series pick.
Join us for an evening of lively conversation as the author discusses her life, her process, her work and her inspirations with renowned literary lecturer Robert Adams. Books and autographs available. Sweet table to follow.
Sponsored by the Michael Lauter Memorial Fund of the JPL.

An Evening Book Discussion for 20 and 30 somethings with Jennifer Solomon and Shannon Hodge
"The Myth of You and Me" by Leah Stewart
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2006 AT 7:00 P.M.

At 30, Cameron Wilson lives in virtual seclusion with Oliver Doucet, an elderly historian who can't understand why the bright, beautiful young woman seems to be hiding from the world. When Cameron's estranged childhood best friend, Sonia Grey, sends Cameron a letter out of the blue, Oliver starts to get an idea about Cameron's demons. Cameron refuses to answer Sonia's letter, but when Oliver passes away two months later, he leaves behind a task for Cameron: a package she must deliver to Sonia for her upcoming nuptials. Reluctantly and somewhat angrily, Cameron takes up the task, driving to Sonia's Boston apartment only to find a note in the place of her friend and a mystery to
unravel. Cameron's search for Sonia takes her down memory lane literally and figuratively: while she
recalls her friendship with Sonia and the reason it ultimately ended, she also renews her friendship with Will Barrett, Sonia's high-school boyfriend and the object of Cameron's unrequited love.

(More than a) Book Launch with Prof. Gil Troy
"Hillary Rodham Clinton - Polarizing First Lady"
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2006 AT 7:30 P.M.

Unlike most First Ladies, Hillary Clinton's White House years were but one chapter in a very remarkable, very public life. Troy's new book candidly and refreshingly looks at arguably the most controversial, prominent First Lady yet: a woman who dealt with family/career balance and infidelity while redefining herself an influential "Co-President" and Senator. Whatever your stance on Hillary's personal life, her career or her presidential ambitions, be prepared to reassess where you think she should stand in the continuum of Presidential spouses and in history.
Gil Troy, professor of history at McGill, is the author of Mr. And Mrs. President: From the Trumans
to the Clintons; Morning in America: How Ronald Reagan Invented the 1980s; and See How They Ran: The Changing Role of the Presidential Candidate. Named one of America's Top 15 Young Historians by History News Network, his commentaries on presidential politics have appeared in many publications, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post.

Introduced by Prof. Rosalie Jukier, Faculty of Law, McGill University.
Books and autographs available. Reception to follow.

Gelber Conference Center, 1 Cummings Square
Admission: $5 members, $10 non-members. For information please call (514) 345-2627 ext. 3017.
