Cent ans de littérature yiddish et hébraïque au Canada

Si l'apport de la communauté juive à la société canadienne reste encore aujourd'hui méconnu, la littérature de cette communauté l'est tout autant. Un auteur s'y est pourtant intéressé il y a un peu plus de 25 ans. Dans Hundert yor Yidishe oun Hebreyshe literatur in Kanade, Haim-Leib Fuks a rédigé, en grande partie grâce aux collections de la Bibliothèque publique juive de Montréal, la biographie de 429 auteurs ayant écrit en yiddish ou en hébreu au Canada. Ceux-ci, dont la majorité sont venus d'Europe de l'Est entre 1900 et 1950, ont publié au Canada 271 ouvrages en yiddish et 43 en hébreu, en plus de centaines d'autres dans leur pays d'origine ou aux États-Unis. Fuks répertorie tous ces ouvrages ainsi que les périodiques et journaux publiés en yiddish et en hébreu au Canada, pas moins de 135 en tout.
