Since 1914, the Library has been serving
Montrealers' diverse recreational, informational, educational, and
cultural needs. Whether it's a rare 16th century Bible, children's
magazines, or our computer centre, we keep past, present and future
in mind with every aspect of our collections and services in 5 languages
: English, French, Hebrew, Yiddish and Russian. In addition, the
Library also presents numerous lectures, cultural events, and concerts
year-round.
Most importantly, our staff and volunteers
are always ready to help you get the most from our Library, because
we know that no matter your age or background, we have something
to offer you.
It happens at the Jewish Public Library
Our book collections emphasize Jewish
topics such as Canadian Jewish history, the Holocaust, Israel and
Biblical studies. We also carry the latest fiction and non-fiction
bestsellers.
Movie and music fans can find anything
from the latest Hollywood blockbuster video to Shlomo Carlebach's
greatest hits CD in our vast audiovisual section.
You can read newspapers and magazines
from Montreal and around the world in our bright, comfortable main
floor reading area. Back issues of Judaica-oriented periodicals
are kept for research and study use. Our Archives preserve the original
documents of prominent Montreal Jewish personalities and institutions.
Our Children's Library provides fun and
enlightenment for beginning readers and budding scholars, including
a computer area and programs for kids of all ages.
