The William Ostreger Audio Collection
The William Ostreger Audio Collection preserves hundreds of original recordings of Jewish authors, intellectuals, and artists who spoke at the Jewish Public Library from the 1950s to the 1980s, capturing voices such as H. Leivick, Kadia Molodowsky, Abraham Sutzkever, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Irving Layton, Mordecai Richler, and Salo Baron. Begun by JPL board member William Ostreger in 1951—who recorded roughly 500 events—the collection was continued by library staff and now features talks and interviews in English, French, Hebrew, and Yiddish, with a selection available online through the Yiddish Book Centre.
