Jewish Public Library Policies & Rules
A shared space for learning, connection, and respect
The Jewish Public Library is a gathering place for our community — a space to read, learn, discover, and connect with one another. To keep the Library welcoming and enjoyable for everyone, we ask all visitors to follow a few simple guidelines. These ensure that our collections, computers, and programs remain accessible, safe, and respectful for all.
🏛 Library Guidelines
Please treat fellow visitors and Library staff with courtesy and respect.
Help us keep the Library calm and pleasant by avoiding disruptive or inappropriate behaviour.
Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Keep your belongings with you. For everyone’s safety, unattended items may be removed by security.
Use Library furniture, equipment, and materials as intended.
Borrow materials through the library’s circulation desk.
Keep phones on silent and take calls outside the library.
Use headphones when listening to audio and keep the volume to yourself.
Register in advance for Library events and courses when required.
Cooperate with staff if the material detection alarm sounds.
Stay out of staff-only areas unless authorized.
Help keep the Library clean by using the recycling and garbage bins provided.
Respect closing times and leave the Library promptly when we close.
Please refrain from solicitation or photography/recordings without prior approval from the Executive Director.
We ask that you avoid eating and drinking in the Library whenever possible. Sealed drinks (like water bottles or travel mugs) are welcome, and light snacks for young children are fine if needed. Thank you for helping us keep the space clean and comfortable for everyone.
Follow staff instructions in case of emergency.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in the suspension of Library privileges.
Computer & Internet Use
The computer kiosks close 30 minutes before the Library closes.
Access may be denied to anyone with suspended privileges or outstanding fees.
Non-members may purchase access for a small fee at the circulation desk.
Computers are first-come, first-served.
Printing and scanning are available on the lower level at $0.15 per page.
Save your work to a USB or cloud account — files are cleared regularly.
For security, please do not install or delete software, change settings, or store files on Library computers.
Staff can provide basic guidance but may not be able to offer in-depth technical help.
Internet Guidelines
Our computers provide access to a wide range of online resources. With that privilege comes responsibility:
Please use the internet respectfully, responsibly, and for legal purposes only.
Respect the privacy of others, and avoid offensive, threatening, or disruptive behaviour.
Do not view or distribute obscene or illegal content.
Protect your personal information (passwords, banking details, etc.).
Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising children’s internet use.
Remember: Library computers are public, and staff can monitor use to ensure policy compliance.
The JPL cannot be held responsible for data loss, viruses, or damages resulting from computer use.
These guidelines are here to protect the community and make the Library an enjoyable space for all. Thank you for helping us keep JPL welcoming, safe, and respectful!
